Juvenile judge elevated

Bradley Boyd became the presiding judge of the Fulton County juvenile court in Friday.

Superior Court Chief Judge Dee Downs swore in Boyd who had been an associate judge for the juvenile court since 2006.

H e was director of the Atlanta Regional Commission's juvenile delinquency prevention program and has worked in various roles in the juvenile justice system including: probation officer, referee and child advocate, chief probation officer and director of management planning.

The Ohio natives has his law degree from the Woodrow Wilson College of  Law and joined the State Bar of Georgia in 1978.

He became a senior assistant district attorney for juvenile court in 1993 and before becoming an associate judge, he served as deputy director for the juvenile court division of the Fulton County Conflict Defender, which provides defense for clients who can't afford a lawyer.

Boyd replaces the former presiding juvenile judge, Sanford "Sandy" Jones who died when the small plane he was piloting crashed in May.
