Jury convicts deputy who sought sex with woman and her child
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A sheriff's deputy who prosecutors say drove 110 miles aiming to have a threesome with a mother and her 7-year-old daughter was convicted in federal court Wednesday.
Following a three-day trial in Atlanta, a jury convicted former Bibb County deputy Gregory Todd Bowden, 43, of attempting to entice a minor to engage in sex. He faces a minimum of 10 years, and a maximum of life in prison, when he is sentenced March 16.
Prosecutors say Bowden, an eight-year veteran of the department, drove from Byron to Sandy Springs expecting to have a threesome that he had arranged online. But the woman he had befriended was actually an undercover FBI agent. Bowden was arrested when he arrived on Feb. 11, 2009.
Bowden frequented online chat rooms in which he engaged in role-playing about incest and child sex acts, prosecutors said. On Bowden's computer, agents found child pornography and other evidence of his interest in incest and sex with minors, they said.
The case was investigated by the Atlanta Safe Child Task Force.
