Jekyll Island regroups after ending developer deal
Associated Press
The board of the Jekyll Island Authority is regrouping after ending its partnership with a private developer that had been chosen to oversee a $100 million makeover of the state park.

The board was expected to vote formally to end its deal with Atlanta developer Linger Longer Communities during a meeting Monday, but questions remain as to how Jekyll Island will move forward with its ambitious revitalization plan.
The Jekyll authority and Linger Longer worked for two years on plans to reverse a tourism slump by building a new convention center, hotels and retail shops on the state-owned island.
Both parties announced last week they were pulling out of the deal. Linger Longer officials said they were unable to meet construction deadlines for Jekyll Island because of the sour economy.
