Jefferson County shifts inmates from leaky jail

The heavy rain that soaked north Georgia has left some prisoners soggy.
The downpour has forced Jackson County authorities to begin moving inmates from the county's old leaky jail into a section of a new 424-bed facility.
The county's sheriff hoped to move the 140 inmates into the building later this month, but the storms across north Georgia forced them to move up their timetable.
County officials opened the $33 million jail and sheriff's headquarters building in early September and administrators and officers moved in soon after. The county plans to open about half of the new jail's cell blocks to keep costs low.
