I-20 reopens in Douglas County
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
In the best news in days for west side commuters, the state Department of Transportation reopened I-20 through Fulton, Cobb and Douglas counties late Wednesday morning.
The highway had been closed since earlier this week, when flood waters from Sweetwater Creek began running over both the eastbound and westbound lanes.
The DOT had been diverting westbound traffic off the interstate at Fulton Industrial Bouelvard, and eastbound drivers were forced off at Fairburn Road. The interstate was reopened in both directions shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Mark McKinnon, a spokesman for the DOT, said three state highway bridges remained closed at noon Wednesday:
* Ga. 34 bridges over the Chattahoochee River and over Lumpkin Creek in Heard County.
* Ga. 166 bridges over the Chattahoochee River and over Anneewakee Creek in Douglas County.
In addition, several state highways remained closed because of road damage:
* GA. 8 at mile marker 8 in Gwinnett County, because of damage to the shoulder.
* Ga. 6 Business at mile marker 2.5 in Paulding County because of road damage.
* Ga. 3 at mile marker 17.6 in Cobb County due to road damage at Butler Creek.
* Ga. 360 at mile marker 3.2 in Cobb County due to road damage.
* Ga. 372 at mile marker 1 in Fulton County due to water on the roadway.
* Ga. 92 at Riverside Drive in Douglas County due to road damage.
* Ga. 230 at mile marker 18 in Dooly County due to roadway damage.
* One lane of Ga. 96 at mile marker 22 in Taylor County due to road damage.
* Ga. 2 at mile marker 3.5 in Catoosa County because of water over the road.
* Ga. 146 between mile markers 2.3 and 3.4 in Catoosa County because of a closed bridge.
