Home invasion leads to shootout in Athens
Associated Press
Police are investigating an Athens home invasion that became a shootout when the woman of the house showed her own gun and fired at the armed invaders.
Police say two men and a woman, all wearing masks, tried to rob the Athens family late Sunday night.
The homeowner told police the alleged robbers fired at her when they had trouble opening a door to get away, and she returned fire. No one was injured.
The robbers took $100 from a visitor and taped his hands together.
The woman said she was in a bedroom with one of her children around 9:30 p.m. when she heard a man demanding items from someone in the front room.
She grabbed her gun, cell phone and daughter and ran into a closet. The robbers entered the room but saw her gun and ran.
