Many wonder if life could exist on Mars, but one scientist may be able to actually make it happen with a new plan that outlines how to build a city on the planet.
In a recently published report, Space X CEO Elon Musk detailshis plan to begin human colonization on Mars.
By launching an array of rockets that would take off, land and refuel several times before making it Mars, Elon believes a million people can settle there in 50 years.
The reusable spaceships, which he's dubbed the Interplanetary Transport System, would each hold 100 people and depart when Earth and Mars were aligned properly about every 26 months.
Ideally, Elon would create 1,000 ITS rockets that would be able to 12 to 15 deep-space journeys during its operational life.
“I want to make Mars seem possible — make it seem as though it is something that we can do in our lifetime,” he wrote in the paper. “There really is a way that anyone could go if they wanted to.”
But the cost would be pretty steep. It would be $200,000 per person. However, without the reusability factor of the plan, the price would be $10 million.
While Elon didn’t detail what the city on Mars would look like, he says the rockets could fly out in about 10 years.View full experience
