McDonough teen was strangled, police say
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Statesboro police said a 19-year-old Henry County woman who was found dead Tuesday near the Georgia Southern University campus was strangled.
The body of Brandie Danielle Davis, 19, of McDonough was found shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the Campus Crossing apartment community, which is adjacent to the Georgia Southern campus.
Davis was a student at Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro.
"Based on the information available at this time, the crime appears to be an isolated incident," Police Chief Stan York told the Statesboro Herald. Police said there was no indication that Davis had been sexually assaulted.
Davis' body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Savannah for the autopsy.
News of Davis' death stunned the McDonough community where the Union Grove High School graduate lived. Friends and family members gathered on the town square Wednesday night for a vigil.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Statesboro Police Department's Criminal Investigative Division at 912-764-1542.
