South Gwinnett High School canceled athletic practices, club meetings and after-school programs Tuesday after rumors that non-students may be on campus later that day, a school official said.

The rumors did not involve students at South Gwinnett High School and were not connected to gang activity, Gwinnett Public Schools spokesman Jorge Quintana said Thursday afternoon.

But administrators thought between the talk of non-South Gwinnett High School students being on campus and the school's efforts to cut down on loitering, it was best to cancel some of the afternoon activities, Quintana said.

The buzz was causing a distraction, school officials said.

"Since the school does have a loitering challenge around the school, it took the proactive step to cancel some after school activities," Quintana said.
