Police identify six injured in Gwinnett County crash
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Gwinnett County Police have identified the six people who were injured Sunday when an unknown vehicle struck a taxi on I-85 in Gwinnett County and sped off.
Police are still looking for the driver of a dark-colored car, however. No charges have been filed.
All six people in the taxi live at the same address in Kennesaw, police said.
The driver was Regis Franscy, 38, police said. The two adult passengers were Maiy Jean, 41; and Raphael Agache, 29, police said.
The three children in the taxi were Mark Lafhan, 9; Jean Stephenson, 7; and Regis Heisenberg, 6.
The crash occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday as the cab -- a white 2004 Chrevrolet Astro van taxi -- was traveling south on I-85 near the Indian Trail Road exit in Norcross.
Another vehicle struck the cab and sped off, police said. The wreck caused the taxi to overturn, police said.
Witnesses told police that the unknown car was traveling south on I-85 in the lane next to the taxi when "for reasons unknown at this time lost control and sideswiped the Astro Van."
The driver and his five passengers had all managed to climb out of the overturned taxi by the time emergency officials arrived, said Capt. Tommy Rutledge, spokesman for Gwinnett County Fire & Emergency Services.
Paramedics rushed Lafhan, Stephenson and Heisenberg to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, where they all remain in stable condition, Rutledge said.
Franscy, Jean and Agache were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville.
All of the injuries are minor to moderate, and not life-threatening, Rutledge said. Police said the passengers were all related.
The suspect's vehicle is described as a dark-colored passenger car that may have damage on the front or driver's side, police said.
Police and firefighters briefly closed all southbound lanes between Indian Trail and Jimmy Carter Boulevard while they cleared the wreckage.
Anyone with information about the suspect is urged to call 770-513-5000.
