Police: Dog given LSD euthanized, couple that ran naked charged
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A Snellville dog that was hit by a car and injured after being given LSD has been euthanized, and its owners have been charged in connection with the incident, police said Tuesday.
Snellville police Capt. Harold Thomas said Nicholas Modrich and Jamie Hughes, both 25, were released from a hospital and booked into Gwinnett County Detention Center on Tuesday night.
Both were charged with misdemeanor possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of a drug-related object and public indecency, police said.
Modrich also was charged with simple battery because a witness saw him forcefully pull Hughes' hair, police said.
Thomas said Snellville police were alerted to the situation by reports of a naked man and woman running along Pinehurst Road at about 8 p.m. Sunday. The couple fled to their home in the 2100 block of Pinehurst Road and Modrich answered the door naked after police knocked, Thomas said.
"They were tripping pretty hard," Thomas said.
During questioning, the man and woman said they had taken LSD and had given some to Oscar, who was missing. Police determined Oscar was a dog and began a search, but soon learned the animal had been hit by a vehicle on a nearby road.
After being hit, Oscar bit Modrich's mother and brother, Thomas said.
Gwinnett Animal Control took possession of the animal, but Modrich's family requested the dog be taken to a private veterinarian, police said. For reasons that were not available Tuesday night, the dog was put down.
Test results are pending for the canine, police said. If they show LSD in the animal's system, Modrich and Hughes also could be charged with animal cruelty.
Inside the home, police found a bong, marijuana and Gummi worms, which were allegedly used to take the LSD, Thomas said. No LSD was found in the home.
