Police raided a Gwinnett County chop shop on Tuesday, arresting the owner and seizing 12 stolen motorcycles.

Investigators say Extreme Cycles near Lilburn was a fencing operation for stolen vehicles.

Police arrested the shop’s owner, Michael Wilmott, 41, on Tuesday. He is being held in the Gwinnett County jail on charges of operating a chop shop, theft by receiving stolen vehicles and theft by receiving stolen property. He is being held on an $82,000 bond.

Police said Wilmott was selling motorcycles that he knew were stolen. The vehicle identification numbers on the bikes had been altered to help disguise that the motorcycles had been stolen, police spokesman Officer Brian Kelly said.

After a long-term investigation, officers with the auto theft unit served a search warrant at Wilmott’s shop at 4276 Stone Mountain Highway. Officers seized 12 motorcycles, which are believed to be stolen, Kelly said.

Police are still investigating the shop to see where the motorcycles were stolen from and how long it had been in operation.

Anyone who has done business with Extreme Cycles is urged to call Cpl. J. Bouchillon at 770-513-5347.
