The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A Gwinnett County State Court jury on Thursday awarded $9.85 million in damages in a wrongful death lawsuit brought by parents of a toddler who died in an unlicensed daycare facility in Buford.

The child's parents, Kemi Green and Gbolohan Bankolemoh, enrolled their child, Abiola in a daycare run by Tanya and Shawn Moon, who falsely claimed their operation was state-approved. Tanya's father, Terry Moon, was also named a defendant in the lawsuit since he owned the property.

Judge John Doran presided over the four-day civil trial. Plaintiffs’ attorneys Jeffrey R. Harris and J. Alan Cleveland argued that while Abiola was left unattended, he fell into an unsecured pool and drowned on March 19, 2009.

Tanya Moon, 37, is also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor in Gwinnett County.
