The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Jose Perez, a Norcross Republican, announced Friday he will seek the District 2 seat on the Gwinnett County Commission in 2010. Perez, owner and president of Target Market Trends, a business and marketing consulting firm, becomes the first to file for the seat being vacated by Bert Nasuti.

A native of Havana, Cuba, Perez has been a Gwinnett resident for 26 years and currently serves on the Engage Gwinnett Committee, a citizens' advisory panel for county budget issues. He has served on the county planning commission for the past six years and is a past member of the board of directors of the Gwinnett and Georgia chambers of commerce. He also represents the 7th Congressional District on the Georgia Board of Education and is a member of the Georgia Gwinnett College Board of Trustees, where he is also an adjunct professor of statistics and economics.

He said his chief goal is to cut spending and taxes by making government more efficient. He also said reduced traffic congestion and attracting more jobs will be keys in his campaign.
