A Lawrenceville man is dead, and a Norcross woman faces charges after running a red light Saturday morning and slamming into his vehicle, police said.
Andrius Nikolaychuk, 18, died at the scene of the accident -- Old Norcross Road and Cruse Road – authorities said. According to police, Nikolaychuk was traveling east on Old Norcross Road in a gray 2001 Saab 93SE.
He was going through the intersection on a green light when his car was hit, police said.
Wykelia Robinson, 28, was going south on Cruse Road in a white 2002 Ford Explorer, authorities said.
Police said Robinson did not stop for the red light at Cruse Road and Old Norcross Road.
A 7-year-old child in Nikolaychuk’s car was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston with life threatening injures. The child, whose name was not released, remains in critical condition, police said.
Robinson was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville and treated for her injuries, police said. Robinson’s two children, who were in the car, were taken to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital and treated and released for minor injuries, authorities.
Gwinnett police continue to investigate the incident. Charges are pending, authorities said.
Investigators said drugs and alcohol were not a contributing cause.
