Gwinnett police seek witnesses to accident that killed infant
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Gwinnett police are seeking more witnesses to an accident that killed a 1-year-old in a park near Snellville on Saturday.
Police said Tekila Glass, 30, of Riverdale, was backing a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica through the parking lot at Lenora Park on Lenora Church Road when her vehicle struck a stroller pushed by Brooke Hellwig, the mother of infant Olivia Hellwig.
The child was transported to Children's Healthcare at Egleston in Atlanta where she later died. Brooke Hellwig was treated for minor injuries, police said in a press release Wednesday.
Also released Wednesday was the initial incident report, which indicates Glass' vehicle held six occupants and that alcohol was not a contributing factor.
Cpl. Edwin Ritter with Gwinnett police said investigators have not been able to confirm Hellwig was in a pedestrian crossing when struck. She was interviewed the day of the accident and more extensively Tuesday, said Ritter.
Investigators are still attempting to determine fault in this accident. Anyone who witnessed the accident and has not spoken with investigators is encouraged to call the Accident Investigation Unit at 770-338-5675.
