Gwinnett pedestrian struck and killed

A Lawrenceville man was struck by a car and killed Thursday night while trying to cross a Gwinnett County road.

The accident happened about 7:30 p.m. on New Hope Road near Bernice Drive near Lawrenceville, according to Gwinnett police Cpl. David Schiralli.

John Bond, 53, died at the scene after being hit by a 1988 Oldsmobile Delta 88,  Schiralli said.

He said the driver of the Oldsmobile tried to avoid hitting Bond, but couldn't.

The investigation is ongoing, Schiralli said.
