Gwinnett deputy beaten
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A Gwinnett County deputy was treated at a hospital after an inmate allegedly beat him.
William Lamb was unconscious and unresponsive when an ambulance arrived at the Gwinnett County Jail on Wednesday, sheriff's spokesman Stacey Bourbonnais said in a statement.
James Washington, the inmate accused of beating Lamb, hit the deputy in the face and proceeded to slam his head on the concrete floor, Bourbonnais said.
Two inmates pulled Washington off Lamb until officials could help, she said.
"We are grateful for the two inmates who held the inmate down until units arrived," Bourbonnais told the AJC.
The inmates who helped Lamb have been identified as Daniel Laner Allen and Kenneth Adam Robinson Jr.
Bourbonnais said if it weren't for them, "the situation likely would have been much worse."
Lamb was treated for his injuries and released from Gwinnett Medical Center for head injuries, Bourbonnais said.
Washington was in jail on charges of criminal damage to property and second-degree violation of probation. He has been placed under maximum security and officials were told to exercise extreme caution in his presence, Bourbonnais said.
Charges against him in the attack are pending. The case is still being investigated.
