A Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputy was arrested Saturday after allegedly getting into a domestic dispute with a woman he lives with in Lilburn.

Lilburn Police met with the 25-year-old woman at a library near her home around noon on Saturday to investigate accusations that Hendryx Colon, 45, caused  superficial injuries by striking her with his fists. The woman told police that the domestic dispute had occurred earlier at the home she shares with Colon in the 4800 block of Indian Crest Court. The officers found sufficient evidence to charge Colon with battery and two counts of third-degree cruelty to children, both misdemeanors.

Colon, a 13-year veteran of the Sheriff's department, is assigned to the field operations division. Deputies in that division serve arrest warrants and track down fugitives. Jail records show he was released on $3,900 bond two hours after he was booked in on Saturday afternoon. A spokesperson for the department said Tuesday that Colon is on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
