Gwinnett crime reports go online
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Gwinnett County residents will soon be able to track crime in their neighborhoods online.
The Gwinnett County Police will unveil a new web-based crime mapping system this week.
Residents will be able to log on to the website and view reported crimes in a certain neighborhood or near a specific address, police spokesman Officer Brian Kelly said.
“The crime mapping concept has been proven effective in reducing crime by raising the level of awareness within the community and facilitating the partnership between the police department and the citizens,” Kelly said in a statement.
The service will also allow residents to subscribe to emailed crime alerts for their neighborhood.
Gwinnett Police serve about 800,000 residents.
Police will unveil the crime mapping software Tuesday afternoon at a news conference.
Atlanta Police also offer online crime maps.
