Grass fires burn near Mall of Georgia
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Three small fires scorched about an acre of grass along Buford Drive, near the Mall of Georgia, Thursday afternoon.
The fires started around 3 p.m. in front of the mall, according to Capt. Tommy Rutledge with the Gwinnett County fire department. Two fires started in front of the QuikTrip gas station, and another started near several restaurants.
Windy conditions helped the fires spread quickly, Rutledge said. Three engines responded to the blazes, but no injuries were reported. None of the buildings or any nearby vehicles suffered any damage, he said.
The cause of the fires is under investigation.
