The project, paid for through federal stimulus funds, will widen the two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway from Cooper/Ozora roads to Brand Road. The 2.7-mile-long project is scheduled for completion in December 2011.
Randall Davis, DOT district construction engineer, said there will be no lane closures through the early stages of construction. Most of the work, he said, will involve clearing and the installation of erosion control measures.
Georgia DOT is responsible for 70 percent of Georgia’s $932 million in highway system federal stimulus funds. The remaining 30 percent is divided among the state’s 15 metropolitan planning organizations and designated rural areas.
