Cobb couple charged in Duluth massage parlor shootout

A Cobb County couple has been arrested and charged in connection with a shootout with Duluth police last month during the armed robbery of a massage parlor, authorities said.

Jonathan Douglas MacMillan and Jessica Mae MacMillan, both 27, are each charged in Gwinnett County with four counts apiece of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and felony fleeing and eluding, Duluth police said.

Jonathan MacMillan also is charged with possession of a weapon during a crime, police said.

The charges stem from an armed robbery the night of Nov. 22 at the Tong Tong China Massage Parlor on Peachtree Industrial Parkway, Duluth.

A man and a woman exchanged gunfire with two Duluth officers who had arrived at the robbery in progress and then jumped in a car and fled. Bullets riddled the police car and the massage parlor, but no one was hurt.

Officers chased the suspects at speeds of up to 100 mph before losing them in Johns Creek.

A car pockmarked with gunfire later was recovered by the Holly Springs Police Department.

The MacMillans were determined to be the vehicle’s owners, according to Duluth police Maj. Don Woodruff.

The couple was taken into custody after a search warrant was executed Tuesday at their home, at 3911 Catalina Drive in unincorporated Cobb County north of Marietta.

The search turned up five replica hand grenades -- leading to a charge in Cobb County against each of possession of a destructive device-hoax device, a Cobb police spokesman said.

Jonathan MacMillan is being held without bond in the Gwinnett County Detention Center, according to the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office.

Jessica MacMillan is in custody in Cobb County Jail. She has been assigned a $5,000 bond on the hoax charge and is being held for Gwinnett authorities, according to a spokeswoman for the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office.

The Cobb County Police Department assisted Duluth in its investigation, Woodruff said.
