A 10-year-old Gwinnett County child suffered serious burns from a pot of hot water on the stove Saturday evening.

The child, who has not been identified, was conscious, alert and breathing when a rescue team arrived, according to Capt. Tommy Rutledge with the Gwinnett County fire department. The child was transported to Grady Hospital.

The incident happened shortly after 6 p.m. at Magnolia Point Apartments in Lawrenceville, Rutledge said.

No charges have been filed, and it appears the incident was accidental.
