The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Robert Lee Byars of Norcross has announced his candidacy for the District 2 seat on the Gwinnett County Commission. Byars, a Democrat, is a medical social worker and officer in his Peachtree Corners neighborhood association.

At a rally kicking off his campaign Saturday in Norcross, Byars called the current Board, “arrogant and out of touch with the communities that make up the second district."

Byars is the second person to declare for the seat being vacated by Bert Nasuti. Last week, Jose Perez, a Norcross Republican, announced his candidacy.

Also, on Monday Braselton businessman Ron Silver announced he will run for the District 3 county commission seat now held by Kevin Kenerly, who is stepping down. Silver, a Republican, ran against Kenerly in 2002 but was disqualified over a residence discrepancy in the newly drawn district just prior to the primary.

He joins Republicans Tommy Hunter and John Heard vying for the seat.
