Stadium promises fall short
Developers have asked Gwinnett County for permission to scale back a large commercial center at Coolray Field and build more apartments instead, altering a concept county officials used to justify spending $64 million on the baseball stadium. Plans for property surrounding the Lawrenceville stadium, built to lure an Atlanta Braves minor league team from Richmond, originally called for 351,000 square feet of commercial space and 610 upscale residential units.

With the temperature balmy but bearable and a pleasant breeze wafting in from center field, Saturday Aug. 13 was a great night for baseball at Coolray Field. The Gwinnett Braves, taking on the Pawtucket Red Sox, were two games out of first place. Playoff tickets would go on sale the following Monday.

Braves to host ‘Game on the Green' in Suwanee
The Atlanta Braves will host a watch party June 25 at Suwanee’s Town Center Park for their game against San Diego. Festivities will start at 6:30 p.m. and first pitch is set for 8:30 p.m. Parking is available at Town Center and along Main Street, which is accessible to the park via a pedestrian tunnel.

The first four batters in the lineup supplied two hits each and staff pitching ace Tim Gustafson turned in another strong outing, leading the Gwinnett Braves to a 7-2 win over Buffalo on Monday night at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. Gustafson (7-4), who leads the team in victories, went six innings, giving up a run while scattering five hits.

Jair Jurrgens didn't last long, but the Gwinnett Braves were good for nine innings, pulling out a 7-2 victory on Monday night at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. Joe Thurston's two-run double broke a 2-2 tie and highlighted a five-run eighth inning for the G-Braves (29-35).

A rainout would have been so much easier on everyone's nerves in the visiting dugout. Todd Redmond of the Gwinnett Braves pitched a no-hitter Friday night, as the G-Braves defeated host Louisville 4-0. Redmond took a perfect game into the sixth inning, when he walked two batters, both former Atlanta Braves. With one out, he walked Corky Miller.

The Gwinnett Braves used a strong pitching performance by James Parr and timely hitting by Freddie Freeman to beat Pawtucket 4-2 and win their fifth consecutive game on Monday night at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. Parr (2-2) tired and was lifted with two on and two outs in the seventh inning, holding a 3-0 lead.

The Gwinnett bullpen let a 1-1 tie slip away in the sixth inning by giving up four runs and the Braves suffered an 8-2 defeat to the Charlotte Knights on Sunday at Coolray Field. Braves sign naming deal for Gwinnett ballpark
The Atlanta Braves have signed a multi-million dollar deal with a Marietta firm for naming rights to the Gwinnett Braves ballpark in Lawrenceville. The 16-year deal with Coolray Heating and Cooling will ultimately mean the county will get about a $4.5-million share over the life of the contract, county officials said.
