Georgia tycoon giving $1.4 million to PETA
For the AJC
HOGANSVILLE — A Hogansville timber tycoon is donating $1.4 million to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
Ware is a timber owner who founded the Holland M. Ware Cancer Research Center at Emory University, in addition to being the namesake of an animal shelter in LaGrange and funding a nationwide tip hot line for people to report dogfighting.
The animal rights organization says the money will be used to raise children's awareness of how circuses obtain baby elephants, to fund a mobile spay and neuter clinic and for cruelty case investigations, including rewards to help bring animal abusers to justice.
Ware says his "blood boils" when he hears about animals being mistreated.
