State revenues plummet 16 percent in September

Georgia’s revenue collections fell another 16 percent in September, compared to the same month a year ago, as the state’s three main sources of tax income continued to bottom out. This marks the 10th consecutive month of declining revenues. Here is a look at the figures released Thursday and how they compare to previous months and years.

September 2009: $750.64 million
September 2008: $874.55 million
Difference: -- 14.2 percent
Corporate income tax collections
September 2009: $139.89 million
September 2008: $161.13 million
Difference: -13.2 percent
Sales and use tax collections
September 2009: $754.79 million
September 2008: $851.46 million
Difference: -11.4 percent
Fiscal year to do date (July 1-Sept. 30)
Overall tax collections: $3.52 billion
Same period a year ago: $4.08 billion
Difference: -13.9 percent
