Senate votes to toughen massage parlor rules
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A bill that would tighten the rules about how the state’s hundreds of massage parlors and spas operate — especially those in Middle Georgia that double as sex parlors — passed the Senate Wednesday.

SB 364 makes it a violation for any person or business to advertise massage therapy services without holding a valid license. The bill also prevents businesses from promoting massage therapy services combined with an escort or dating service and adult entertainment.
After a third offense, violators could face five years in prison and a fine up to $25,000.
The bill was introduced by Sen. Cecil Staton a Republican from Macon, a city that has seen a proliferation of massage parlors and spas. Staton said that there are at least 25 of the businesses in Bibb County, with 24 being in Macon. Many of them offer sexual services, he said.
The bill passed 51-0 and now moves to the House of Representatives.
