Legislator with tax-troubled past says Revenue Department didn't cite her

Despite court records that show that state Rep. Roberta Abdul-Salaam has racked up more than $22,000 in liens because of unpaid state and federal income taxes, the Riverdale lawmaker insists that her tax issues are behind her.

“I am current,” Abdul-Salaam said Friday. “Everything is fine.”
But according to court documents, over the past eight years Abdul-Salaam accumulated $22,381 in tax liens, including $651 for 2008 state taxes. In January, the Georgia Department of Revenue announced that one member of the House had not filed a 2008 tax return.
That House member has not been officially identified.
A spokesman for the Revenue Department would not comment, but Abdul-Salaam has denied that she is the person.
But that doesn’t appear to be Abdul-Salaam’s only problem.
Katy Pando, a spokeswoman for the Georgia Building Authority, said Friday that Abdul-Salaam still owes $600 for chair and table rentals from a Coretta Scott King tribute at the state Capitol nearly a year ago.
