Ex-contractor to seek $150 million from DOT
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A lawyer for a former South Georgia road contractor said it would seek $150 million from the state Department of Transportation as part of litigation over paving projects on I-95 and I-75.
Election 2012: Across the nation
Earlier this month, a federal jury in Brunswick awarded the contractor, Douglas Asphalt Co., $150 million against Applied Technical Services Inc., the inspection company that DOT used on the projects.
DOT had accused Douglas of shorting the hydrated lime in its asphalt recipe, a charge the company denied.
DOT lawyers said at the agency’s board meeting last week that the court already denied the contractor’s attempt to sue individual DOT employees in the case, and the same protection that applied to the employees could apply to the department. A lawyer for Douglas Asphalt, Brent Savage, disagreed.
