Deal and Franklin endorse Nahmias for justice

Republican Gov.-elect Nathan Deal and former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, a Democrat, recently pledged their support for Nahmias, the former U.S. attorney in Atlanta.

In a statement, Deal called Nahmias an intellectual leader of the state's judicial system.

"Justice Nahmias embodies the traits that I will seek when I'm called upon to appoint judges to the bench in Georgia," Deal said. "It speaks volumes that Georgia leaders from both parties are asking voters to keep Nahmias on the court."

Nahmias is in the runoff against Tamela "Tammy" Adkins, a Lawrenceville lawyer who did not campaign in the general election. She narrowly missed getting in a runoff for a seat on the Georgia Court of Appeals in 2008. Since getting in the non-partisan state Supreme Court runoff, Adkins has mounted an aggressive campaign.

Also endorsing Nahmias are Republican Attorney General-elect Sam Olens, the former chair of the Cobb County commission, and former Albany prosecutor Ken Hodges, the Democratic nominee in the AG's race. Nahmias has also been endorsed by four dozen state lawmakers and 11 past presidents of the State Bar of Georgia.
