The U.S. Senate Wednesday confirmed -- by a 94-5 vote -- Adalberto Jose Jordan to fill one of two vacancies on the federal appeals court in Atlanta.

Jordan, who was born in Cuba and came to the U.S. with his parents when he was 6 years old, clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. In 1999, he was put on the U.S. District Court bench in Miami by President Bill Clinton. The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is allotted 12 judges; President Barack Obama has yet to submit a nominee for an opening to be filled by a Georgia lawyer or judge.
