Technical College system considers closing campuses

The Technical College System of Georgia would save nearly $4 million a year if it closed campuses enrolling less than 200 students, Commissioner Ron Jackson told lawmakers Wednesday during a committee meeting on higher education spending.

It's too soon to say whether all the sites will close, Jackson said adding that it depends on what happens with the 2013 fiscal year budget.

Some may remain open because the locations also house GED classes and adult education programs.

None of the satellite campuses are in metro Atlanta. Four of the 18 recommended locations enroll fewer than 25 students.
