A Pine Mountain father of five is $1 million dollars richer thanks to his Georgia Lottery win.

Robin Harcey, who will celebrate his 52nd birthday on Tuesday, won a $1 million top prize playing the Georgia Lottery instant game Extreme Green.

“Moving to Georgia was the best thing to happen to us,” said Harcey.

Ten years ago, Harcey and his family moved to Georgia so that his kids could benefit from the HOPE scholarship.

Two of his daughters attended college as HOPE recipients, he said. The scholarships are funded with lottery proceeds.

Harcey stopped at Money Back on N. Main Street in Pine Mountain and purchased the ticket. He scratched it later that evening after remembering he had it in his wallet.

“I called all of my kids together and said, ‘Hey I just won a million dollars,’ ” he said, adding that his kids said he seemed too calm to have won.

“I don’t think it really hit me yet,” he said. “This is a life-changing moment.”

Harcey, who owns a monogram business with his wife, anticipates paying off his mortgage and saving the remainder.
