Students in Fulton County schools are under a Dec. 22 deadline to prove they are lawful residents of the county or face having to re-enroll for the next semester.

This is a policy that's been in effect since 2007, when officials found some students who live outside the county were attending Fulton schools, said spokeswoman Allison Toller.

On Tuesday, officials at Westlake High School sounded the alarm. About 800 of its 2,000 students had not provided proof of residency. That sparked a flurry of activity, including calls to parents.
