The Consumer Product Safety Commission will announce a massive crib recall on Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the agency told the AJC on Monday.

The spokeswoman said she had few details other than the recall would be announced Tuesday.

A report from ABC News said the recall would be the largest in history and would involve cribs with drop-down sides.

The Bethesda, Md.-based CPSC issues safety information, warnings and recalls on consumer products such as toys, cribs, power tools, cigarette lighters and household chemicals.

More than 4.6 million cribs have been recalled since 2007. The CPSC announced the recall of 400,000 drop-side cribs manufactured by Simplicity Inc.  in July because they pose a risk of suffocation. Simplicity and crib maker Delta Enterprises also have issued voluntary recalls.
