Teen driver charged in wreck that killed Sandy Creek student
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A Sandy Creek High student has been charged in a Monday morning crash that killed her 16-year-old friend.
Delsia Radlein, also 16, was driving to school when she lost control of her Toyota Corolla on curvy Old Ford Road, striking a stone mailbox. Backseat passenger Angel Anthony, who was not wearing her seat belt, died from injuries sustained in the accident. Radlein and a second passenger, 16-year-old Cameron Bush, were wearing seat belts and suffered only minor injuries, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office said.
Radlein, of Fayetteville, is charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, driving too fast for conditions, failure to maintain a lane and other minor charges.
Attorney Gerald Griggs has been hired by Radlein's family to represent the girl. "[The family] hopes that after the conclusion of this case the criminal justice system will determine that this incident was an unfortunate accident and not a criminal act," Griggs said.
The wreck remains under investigation, though no other charges are expected, a sheriff's office spokesman said.
The tragedy mars what had been a banner week for Sandy Creek High, which captured its first state football championship last Friday.
