Escaped inmate nabbed after trading gun for NASCAR tickets
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
An escaped Alabama inmate charged with murder was caught this week after he traded a gun for tickets to Sunday's NASCAR race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Channel 2 Action News reports.
Vendors at the speedway told a Hampton police officer that a man with no ID was trying to sell a .22-caliber pistol in exchange for two race tickets. The officer, Eric Hayes, spotted a man matching the description and confronted him.
Michael Lynn Sherer, 51, was re-arrested and booked into the Henry County Jail pending extradition to Alabama.
