The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson will officially announce his bid for a third term to represent Georgia’ 4th Congressional District on Saturday.

Last month, Johnson, a Democrat, announced that he is battling Hepatitis C. He has maintained that he is healthy and committed to running again.

Johnson faces former DeKalb CEO Vernon Jones and DeKalb County Commissioner Connie Stokes, who are both Democrats.

Jones’ official announcement is scheduled for Friday. Stokes said she will launch her campaign Jan. 30.

DeKalb Commissioner Lee May said he is also considering running.

Johnson’s announcement is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at The Burroughs Building on Hillandale Drive in Lithonia.

Johnson said he has helped bring $150 million in federal funds to DeKalb in 2009.

“Serious times call for serious representation, and the Fourth District will be well served by a vigorous, positive debate that presents a diversity of views,” Johnson said in a statement. “I look forward to a vigorous campaign and re-election to a third term.”
