Teen murder suspect caught after escaping from detention center
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The teenage murder suspect who escaped from the DeKalb County Regional Youth Detention Center was back in custody Sunday afternoon.
Dwayne McCloud, 16, was reported missing when he failed to show up for roll call around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Amy Howell, commissioner of the state's department of juvenile justice, said Sunday afternoon. The facility was locked down, but McCloud was not inside.
The teenager was found around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Howell said. Details about the teen's location and how he escaped were not released.
McCloud and two others are accused of killing a 78-year-old John Green of Savannah during an armed robbery in January, according to the Savannah Morning News. McCloud allegedly served as the lookout as Green, a grandfather, was killed.
The trio was indicted last month and McCloud was transferred to the DeKalb center April 27 because of safety concerns, Howell said.
McCloud is expected to face additional charges.
