The Atlanta Humane Society is offering a $5,000 reward for information about a puppy found shot in the face in Lithonia.

Children found the 9–month-old dog, a pit bull mix, on Wednesday roaming near Panola Mountain Conservation Park, police said.

The dog, now called Winchester, had suffered a wound to the face: The bullet entered his right eye and exited his left eye, police said.

On Monday, the Atlanta Humane Society announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Anyone convicted of animal cruelty faces up to five years in prison.

Investigators said the puppy will lose his left eye, but is expected to recover.

The shooting remains under investigation by the DeKalb County animal control unit. Anyone with information may call 404-294-3065.
