DeKalb County residents can give feedback on the police department as part of the department's accreditation

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. will hold a public comment session on Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. at fire headquarters at 1950 W. Exchange Place, Tucker. Residents unable to attend the public comment session can also give public comments by calling 770-724-7839 between 2-4 p.m. on Dec. 6.

The national agency will include the public comments as part of its process to reaccredit the police department. Starting Saturday, CALEA will conduct an on-side assessment to review the department’s compliance with 464 national standards. The assessment will focus on the department’s policies, procedures, management, operations and support services, Police Chief William O’Brien said.

The department has been accredited since 1991, but is required to be re-assessed every three years, police said.
