The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

One person was injured in a fire at a DeKalb County apartment building Wednesday night, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The incident happened at the Lenox Summit Apartments in the 2400 block of East Club Drive off Peachtree Road around 8 p.m.

Nearly 200 elderly and disabled residents were evacuated, and the fire was contained to one first-floor unit of the five-story building, Channel 2 said.

The man in the burning unit was rescued by firefighters and was the only injury reported.

MARTA buses were sent to the area to hold the residents until they could return to their apartments.

"You have elderly tenants. They have to come out through the stairs at night. It has turned a little chilly, so, yes, it is a worst-case scenario," William “Wiz” Miller, public safety director for DeKalb County, told Channel 2.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
