Oglethorpe University celebrates 175th anniversary

Oglethorpe University officials announced two events that will formally launch the commemoration the Brookhaven institution's 175th anniversary.

Ted Turner is scheduled to speak at the school at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday and  former President Jimmy Carter is scheduled to speak at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 16. Both events are free and open to the public, but seating is limited.

College officials said additional events will be held throughout the year. More information can be found on the school's Web site: www.oglethorpe.edu.

The college enrolls more than 1,000 students and sits on Peachtree Road just north of Buckhead. Oglethorpe is home to the Georgia Shakespeare theater company and has earned national attention for its Center on Civic Engagement.
