New sidewalks and street lights are being installed in Lithonia’s downtown, as part of an effort to lure more business to the south DeKalb County city.

The $1.02 million project, which will also include street resurfacing, is being paid by federal funds and the county’s department of transportation.

Crews broke ground on the project just before Thanksgiving and expect to be done next spring.
