Keyunicka Byars became DeKalb County’s last Class of 2009 graduate when schools Superintendent Crawford Lewis presented her with a diploma last week in a private ceremony.

System officials said a grade reporting error prevented Byars from taking part in graduation ceremonies in May. They notified Lewis, who apologized to Byars and her family and presided over the ceremony.

Byars graduated with honors from Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood. She plans this spring to attend The Art Institute of Atlanta and study fashion and retail management.

Classes for the current school year started Monday.
