Ex-convict who served 30 years now charged in 2nd killing
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A DeKalb County man who served more than 30 years in prison is now charged in a second death, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Samuel Hayes, who has been out of prison for only nine months, was taken into custody after running from members of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office's fugitive squad Wednesday night. He was taken to the DeKalb jail.
Hayes is accused of fatally shooting Joshua Grier and leaving his body near a lake near Stone Mountain on Jan. 22 during what police believe was an argument over drugs, Channel 2 said. The two met in a halfway house last year, detectives said.
Police searched for evidence in Hayes' vehicle and the home where he was first spotted.
According to Department of Corrections records, Hayes was released from prison in April 2011 after being behind bars since January 1980. He was convicted of an August 1979 murder and robbery in Bibb County.
