A Doraville pawn shop owner remained in critical condition Thursday night after being shot during an attempted robbery Wednesday.

Two men entered the HK Jewelry and Pawn, located in Clover Plaza in the 5600 block of Buford Highway, around 11 a.m. Wednesday, Doraville Police spokesman Officer Gene Callaway said. The men were looking for jewelry, police said.

"They got into an altercation for about five to seven minutes," Callaway said.

Both men pulled out guns and one of them shot the owner once in the head. They also beat a woman inside the store, Callaway said.

The owner was rushed to a nearby hospital, and was expected to undergo surgery Thursday night, Callaway said. Police declined to identify the owner.

The woman was treated at the scene and questioned by detectives.

The suspects fled in a vehicle while the woman ran to the nearby ING wireless store, where she asked workers to call 911.

The suspect vehicle was described as a silver or gray mid- to late-90s Toyota Corolla or Camry.

"Both suspects were covered in the victim's blood as they departed the scene," Callaway said.

He said the suspects were carrying a light tan bag, with blue trim and a blue panel or pocket on the bag.

One suspect is described as a black male, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, 150 pounds, with medium to dark skin and short hair, and  wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a blue or black hat with an "A" on the front.

The second is described as an Hispanic male, 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall, 150 pounds, wearing a tan shirt, blue jeans and a tan hat.

"We are following up on some really good leads on that suspect," Callaway said Thursday.

Detectives are still trying to determine if anything was stolen and if the store's video surveillance cameras captured the attack, Callaway said.

Anyone with information on either suspect call 770-220-1591.
