An aggravated assault suspect was talked peacefully out of a home after a two-hour standoff with authorities Friday morning, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office said.

Monte Carter, 31, barricaded himself in a relative's home in the 2900 block of Duncan Road when fugitive squad members, acting on a tip, knocked on the door to take him into custody at 8 a.m., authorities said.

After attempts to get Carter to leave the residence, the SWAT team and negotiators were called to the scene at 9:50 a.m. Carter was talked out of the home at 10:15 a.m. after authorities contacted him on the phone. He was taken to the DeKalb County Jail.

Carter is accused of shooting into a group of seven people Sept. 10 in the 4100 block of Deacon Lane, the sheriff's office said. He allegedly shot one person in the leg and shattered a car window.

He will be charged with two counts of aggravated assault, reckless conduct, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and criminal damage to property, authorities said.
